จากการเรียนรู้ในห้องเรียน วันที่ 22 ตุลาคม 2558ได้ศึกษาเกี่ยวกับ การลดรูปของ Adverb clause ซึ่ง Adverb
clause คือ อนุประโยคย่อยที่ทำหน้าที่ขยายกริยา
ขยายคุณศัพท์และขยายกริยาวิเศษณ์ในประโยคหลัก Adverb clause มีด้วยกันทั้งหมด
9 ประเภทและ Adverb clause สามารถนำมาลดรูปได้ให้อยู่ในรูปของ
Phraseซึ่ง
จากการเรียนรู้ในห้องเรียนวันนี้ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับการลดรูปของ Adverb
clause of timeซึ่ง Adverb clause of time มักจะมีคำเชื่อมอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น After, Before, Once, Until, When, While, As
soon as, Since การลดรูปประเภทนี้สามารถทำได้หลายวิธีด้วยวิธีการ
ดังนี้ 1) ลดรูปได้เมื่อประธานของ adverb
clause และ main clause เป็นตัวเดียวกัน
2) ใช้ present participial phrase (V-ing) ในกรณีที่ประธานเป็นผู้กระทำกริยา 3) ใช้ past participial
phrase (V-ed) ในกรณีที่ประธานเป็นผู้ได้รับผลของการกระทำ
ประเภทแรกสามารถลดรูปได้ถ้าหากประธานใน
ประโยคหลักและประธานในอนุประโยคเป็นตัวเดียวกัน เช่น
- The seed is sown before it is watered. =
The seed is sown before being watered.
- While he
was crossing the street, he met his old
friend. = While crossing the street, he
met his old friend.
- The water becomes hot after it heated. = The water becomes hot after being
heated.
จะเห็นได้ว่าในรูปแบบนี้หากประธานเป็นตัวเดียวกันทั้งใน
main clause และadverb clause เราจะลดรูปประธานใน
adverb clause และตัด verb to be ออก
จากนั้นเราก็ดูว่าประธานตัวนั้นเป็นผู้กระทำหรือประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำ
หากประธานตัวนั้นเป็นผู้กระทำ เราจะใช้ present participle (v-ing) หรือประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำเราจะใช้ past participle (v-ed)
ต่อไปคือหากประธานไม่ได้ชี้เฉพาะเจาะจงเราสามารถที่จะลดรูปประโยคนั้นได้เช่นกัน
เช่น
-When a
nurse observes the patient, the ease
and difficulty of breathing are noted = When observing the patient, the ease and difficulty of
breathing are noted.
Before you
take a bedpan to a patient, it should be clean. = Before taking a bedpan to a patient, it
should be clean.
แต่ถ้าหากว่าประธานตัวนั้นระบุมาเฉพาะเจาะจงว่าเป็นใครและไม่ใช่คนเดียวกันทั้งใน
main clause และadverb clause ไมสามารถลดรูปได้
เช่น After John comes, Mary
left., Before he return from work, his
wife cooked dinner. , When the sun radiates heat, sea water evaporates.
หากการกระทำเกิดขึ้น ณ ตอนนั้นและการกระทำนั้นเสร็จสิ้นลงไปแล้วไม่สามารถลดรูปได้
เช่น He has lived here since he was born.
ถ้าประธานใน Adverb clause เป็นคำนาม และประธานใน main
clause เป็นคำสรรพนามประธานทั้งสองตัวนั้นจะต้องสลับตำแหน่งกันก่อนจึงจะลดได้และลดประธานในmain
clause เช่น After water
is heated, it becomes hot. เมื่อสลับที่แล้วจะได้เช่นนี้
After it is heated, water becomes
hot. เมื่อสลับที่แล้วสามารถลดรุปได้เลย After being heated,
water becomes hot
การลดรูปของ
Adverb of time มี 4 ประเภทด้วย
คือ ขึ้นต้นด้วยคำว่า After, Before หรือ Since มีกฎการลดได้ดังนี้ 1. ละประธานใน Adverb
clause ที่เป็นตัวเดียวกันกับใน main clause 2. ละ กริยาช่วยทั้งหมดใน Adverb
clauseและเปลี่ยนกริยาเป็น V-ing เมื่อกริยาใน
adverb clause เป็นผู้กระทำ แต่ถ้ากริยาใน adveb
clause เป็น present หรือ past perfect
tense กริยาช่วยที่เป็น have/has/ had เปลี่ยนเป็น having และตามด้วย
past participle และถ้ากริยาใน adverb clause ประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำจะเปลี่ยนเป็น Being + past participle 3. สรุปว่าคำที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย After, Before, Since ปกติจะลดรูปได้และจะเริ่มต้นด้วย
V- ing หรือไม่นั้นขึ้นอยู่ว่าประธานเป็นผู้กระทำหรือผู้ถูกกระทำ
ตัวอย่างเช่น After he finished high school, he
continued his studies for bachelor degree.= After finishing high school, he
continued his studies for bachelor degree., After he had finished
high school, he continued his studies for bachelor degree.= After having
finished high school, he
continued his studies for bachelor degree., After the nurse has applied soap to
her hand, she was them. = After having applied soap to her hands, the nurse
washes them. = After applying soap to her hands, the nurse was them.
ข้อควรระมัดระวัง 1.
After, Before, Since สามารถตามได้เพียง V-ing ทั้ง ประธานเป็นผู้กระทำและประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำ
และไม่สามารถตามด้วย V-ed เหมือนกับข้างต้นได้ เช่น The seed is sown before it is watered. = The seed is sown before being watered. She
has not work since she left school.
= She has not worked since she leaving school. 2. สามารถใช้ prior to แทนที่ before ในการลดรูปได้ เช่น Before
the seedling manufactures food for itself, it uses up the food stored in the
seed. = Before/ Prior to manufacturing food for itself,
the seedling uses up the food stored in the seed.
ซึ่งจากการศึกษาก็พบได้ว่าการลดรูปของ Adverb clause of time สามารถทำได้หลายรูปแบบซึ่งขึ้นอยู่กับว่าประธานทั้งใน main clause และใน adverb clause เป็นตัวเดียวกันและสามารถลดรูปได้เป็น
Present participle ในกรณีที่ประธานเป็นผู้กระทำกริยาและ
สามารถลดรูปเป็น Past participle ได้ในกรณีประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำ
ซึ่งก่อนจะลดจะต้องตัด กริยาช่วยใน Adverb clause ออกก่อนแล้วจึงลดรูปได้ดังที่กล่าวมา
ซึ่งหากเราเข้าใจแล้วเราสามารถนำมาใช้กับการแปลได้คือเราสามารถรู้ว่าประโยคที่ลดรูปมาแล้วนั้นรูปเต็มของประโยคเป็นอย่างไร
หากเข้าใจเราก็จะสามารถแปลได้เข้าใจและรู้เรื่องมากยิ่งขึ้น
